Village of Lucketts safety improvements complete

LUCKETTS – Construction is complete on safety improvements along Route 15 (James Monroe Highway) in the Village of Lucketts, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The improvements included:

• Constructing a sidewalk with grass buffer, curb and gutter on the west side of Route 15 from the Hiway mobile home community to just north of Stumptown Road.
• Installing a crosswalk and pedestrian signals for those walking across Stumptown Road.
• Adding a traffic calming concrete bump out with grass buffer on the east side of Route 15 from the Lucketts Elementary School northern entrance to the beginning of the right-turn lane to Lucketts Road.
• Relocating the existing Lucketts Elementary School crosswalk from the south side of the intersection to the north side with new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons; the eastern end of the relocated crosswalk is the new concrete bump out, thereby shortening the distance for pedestrians to cross from one side of Route 15 to the other.

The $4.24 million Village of Lucketts safety improvements project was financed with federal and state funding. Construction began last September and was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

The project is separate from Loudoun County’s initiatives in the Route 15 corridor between the Leesburg town limits and Maryland state line.
